"One method
of measuring IQ is the cross-modal transfer - ability to
generalise from one sensory or motor modality to another is another
skill that predicts later intelligence. One year old who can visually
recognise a toy that were previously allowed to touch but not actually
see (it is inside a box) tend to score higher on later IQ test than
babies who can't seem to make this mental transfer." - Lise
Eliot, author of the book "Early Intelligence"
Example of how a child can learn
from integrated learning
The main objective of this 3-in-1 integrated
learning can be explained by the following example:
The child listens to the song from CD: "Row, row,
row your boat" - she remembers the music and its
association to the word boat + listen to the sound of the
word boat
Then she watches the video: the segment
that relates to the row your boat song, and now knows how
the boat will looks like
Then she touch/play with the Card:
associating to what she see and listen before. By following
the tips and the activities that is behind the Learning Cards,
she will know more about the other attributes of the
word boat (learning the characteristic of the subject matter.)
By using all her senses, she will then able
to form a richer experience of the word - boat
See the above
example in action!

Q: The purpose
of Integrated Learning?
The purpose of integrated learning is to help children
make connections between what they know and what they are learning
and to help them remember what they have learned.
Young children are less likely to remember isolated
bits of information than information linked to prior knowledge.
The content in the 3-in-1 Integrated Learning VCD Set is therefore
set out to provide a tool for parents to help the child in her integrated
learning capability.
Q: What does
Integrated Learning approach aim to do?
The human brain learns through experience. The brain's
first contact with the world is through the senses. So learning
must engage our senses (for example: sight, hearing, smell, touch,
taste, and movement).
These are naturally activated by physical interactions
that the baby has with the world. At the basic level, parents/caretakers
provide experiences that have the baby can interact with knowledge
in ways that are concrete and physical.
Based on a physical experience, parents/caretakers
can help the baby identifies physical attributes of something using
descriptions (size, color, dimension), object (draw, mold, shape,
build) and helping the baby create a model of something they need
to master.
This integrated approach allows
the child to
- Learn about a new
subject in multiple ways (listen; watch, touch)
- Remember the subject
for a longer period of time
- Recall the subject
creatively through many means
- Experience about
the subject in much greater depth
Note:
Some of the images (in flashcard & videos) are of toys, not
the actual object or animals. The objective is to expose the child
to objects that he sees commonly & to teach them patterning
and the understanding that the same object that can appear in
many different forms.
Learning Cards are laminated with a glossy finish
to protect the baby and has made it easy to keep clean.
Each card has been labeled. Parents can therefore
ungrouped & regrouped them easily and arrange them according to
some logic of the moment. Good for the imagination play!
